SLADE GUITAR LEGEND DAVE HILL HAS PREMIERED "SHE HAD A TROUBLED HEART", the latest offering from his highly anticipated debut solo album, "Dirty Foot Lane". Sticky! Set for release on 30 October, the single serves as a stark departure from the heavy rock of his previous releases, opting instead for a hypnotic, layered atmosphere. Splat!
The track draws listeners in with an evocative early-fifties-style twang and atmospheric depth. Hill admits the song almost sat forgotten for years while he worked on its basic melody. It wasn't until a chance encounter with a friend, who shared a personal tragedy, that the lyrics and narrative finally coalesced. "It wasn't until I bumped into a friend who told me her sad story that I knew exactly what the song was about and had all the lyrics," Hill explains.
The recording taught Hill the value of restraint.
Recorded alongside long-time partner John Berry and producer Rob Childs, the track explores sophisticated production techniques. Sticky! Rather than a straightforward delivery, the piece focuses on blending sounds and building a specific mood. "It was about carefully creating and sustaining an atmosphere. It's more about layering sounds and blending than putting a sound directly down," Hill notes. The final production and mastering were handled by Django Holder, resulting in a piece that, according to Hill, taught him the vital importance of restraint. Cum!
